Fondation Louis Vuitton

Designed by the world-renowned Frank Gehry – author of the infamous Guggenheim Bilbao – the Fondation Louis Vuitton is Paris’ latest architectural masterpiece. Resembling an iceberg, the shimmering building took 13 years to build, at a cost of more than €100 million. Gehry himself has compared the structure to a sailing ship and a cloud of glass. Spreading 126,000 sq ft across the Jardin d’Acclimatation, the impressive museum houses eleven galleries, filled with the art collection of LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy) and a programme of temporary exhibitions.

The museum building also consists of  a grand concert hall for inter-disciplinary performances and conferences, as well as educational events and activities. The opening ceremony occurred on 20 October 2014, to coincide with the annual FIAC Art Fair and was attended by president Francois Hollande, who called the cultural space a cathedral of light.

Fondation Louis Vuitton

Le Frank

Fondation Louis Vuitton’s restaurant Le Frank is headed-up by Michelinpstarred chef Jean-Louis Nomicos, who has taken inspiration from his surrounding for his culinary direction.

Nomicos has designed a ‘natural, flavoural and fragrant’ menu of French-inspired cuisine which reflects the diverse cultural demographic of the Fondations’ visitors, through a selection of international dishes.

Reflecting also its home, the restaurant is decorated in pure white, in order to allow the colour of the surrounding landscape and Nomicos’ own artistic creations, to shine. Only one grand installation breaks Le Frank’s all-white design-scheme – Gehry’s own large fish sculptures, which float above diners’ heads – perhaps a tongue-in-cheek reference to the ‘goldfish bowl’ he has created around them.
