Musée de la Chasse et de La Nature

Founded by French industrialist rug-maker François Somme, the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, or Museum of Hunting and Nature, provides us with the experience of an intimate soirée in an 18th century hunting lodge. As you move from room to room, you’ll find yourself in chambers from the Salle du Sanglier, or Wild Boar Room, to rooms dedicated to antique rifles and knives, to a unicorn display that will amuse admirers of the fantastic – a journey that mimics the experience of a Wunderkammer.

The museum focuses on these pre-modern objets d’art, but has also shown works by contemporary artists such as Jeff Koons, Jan Fabre, and Mark Dion in their temporary changing exhibitions, that seek to explore the relationships between humans, the natural environment, and art.
