Musée Rodin

This museum presents a wonderful nod to one of the leading figures in modern sculpture. A full collection of Rodin’s sculptures can be found here in the beautiful 18th century grey-stone Hôtel Biron, set in the heart of Faubourg St-Germain. Surrounded by a three-hectare park, the museum’s 700,000 annual visitors have much room to wander.

After a government effort to restore the rose gardens to the original beauty of their 18th century setting, Rodin’s best pieces now sit in a picturesque courtyard. Amongst the beautiful outdoor pieces are three of his best-loved works, The Burghers of Calais, The Thinker and The Gates of Hell.

Once inside the Hôtel Biron, expect a more intimate view into the mind of the artist. Using sculptures, plaster casts, original works, and sketches, as well as illustration, the thought and methodology behind Rodin’s unmistakable pieces comes to life. Works by Rodin’s mistress, Camille Claudel, as well as paintings by Van Gogh, Renoir, and Monet feature throughout the museum. Rodin’s world-revered pieces, however, completely steal the show.
