I grew up in Bristol but moved around a lot as a kid. I’ve always been into drawing – whether it be the artwork on the front of Cereal boxes or Bruce Lee on video covers back in the day. I got into graffiti in the 80’s then found my path in the 90’s and started combine intricate stencil work with my conventional freehand form.
I was also fortunate to work on a number of films where I was inspired by a great number of creative minds which pushed me to make something of myself. I feel very blessed to have been able to earn a living doing what I have always loved to do.
If there was one piece of art you could feature in, which would it be and why?
I would have loved to be in an LS Lowry because he was a man of the people and it what an honour it would have been to point yourself out amongst a crazy, bustling Lowry crowd.
Who inspires you and why? an artist, a family member, someone current or historical?
I have always been inspired by Moebius, who was a concept futuristic illustrator. He could paint anything, draw anything, and his imagination was and still more innovative and expansive than any of this peers. May he rest in peace.
What are your cultural aspirations? what do you still want to see, do and achieve?
I would love to travel to India to experience the culture, the food, the people, and the colours. I also want to go to space one day so that I can see how insignificant we all really are in this massive universe.
What are your favourite cultural cities in the world and why?
New York - because it is always evolving, metamorphosing, energizing city in the world. Tokyo - because it’s information overload - in a good way. Amsterdam - because it’s relaxed and low key with some nice hidden gems scattered around. I’ve been going there since I was a small kid and it will always have a place in my heart.
What are you up to at the moment and where can we find it?
Currently I am painting a new body of work for my next solo show in Paris at the Gallery Brugier-Rigail. Then I will be painting a mural at Coachella in April, followed by a mural at the Boy’s and Girls’ Club in Santa Monica. I also have my very own Vandal figurine coming out with Royal Doulton and will be working on the next figurine in the series with them soon. After that I will be in Hong Kong for another solo show, then I hope to get some R&R on a deserted island. March 2015
