Rosie Wolfenden and Harriet Vine
Rosie Wolfenden and Harriet Vine founded jewellery brand Tatty Devine in London’s East End in 1999. The brand remains an independent British company, designing and micro-manufacturing original jewellery that is now shared through 300 worldwide stockists, as well as their own stores on Brick Lane and Monmouth Street in London, and concessions in the London Oxford Street, Manchester Trafford and Birmingham branches of Selfridges.
If there was one piece of art you could feature in, which would it be and why?
It would be amazing to be in a Peter Blake - he is so iconic, so British, and so much fun!
Who inspires you and why? an artist, a family member, someone current or historical?
Rosie - I have always been inspired by my granny who was an artist, self published author, gardener and business woman. She had huge amounts of energy and never gave up. Harriet - So many people inspire me. Such different people influence each collection, from Frida Kahlo, Amelia Earhart and Bruce Jacey to Houdini, Siegfried and Roy, Henry VIII, William Morris, Patti Smith and of course, Rosie.
What are your cultural aspirations? what do you still want to see, do and achieve?
Our cultural aspirations are for Tatty Devine to remain relevant, and hold its place and significance in the future. We have never wanted to be pigeon holed or labelled and we strive to cross all cultural disciplines and always be original and fun.
What are your favourite cultural cities in the world and why?
London will always be a favourite - it's diversity, energy and boundless range of things to see and do make it unbeatable. Our other favourite cities include New York and Tokyo.
What are you up to at the moment and where can we find it?
We’re celebrating our 15th birthday with a month-long residency at the Southbank Centre! We are showcasing our new birthday collection and running drop-in jewellery making workshops every weekend during september at the Southbank Centre shop at Royal Festival Hall. We recently launched our AW14 collection online and in-stores, which was inspired by scientific mythologies and folklore, and also collaborated with Kit Neale on his SS15 collection. In addition to our two stores, you can also find us in Selfridges London, Manchester exchange and Birmingham where you can design your own original name necklace on the spot and watch our skilled team create, laser cut and finish your necklace by hand.
